Meatless Monday - Quorn #Review
Every Monday we try to eat meatless, it's a bit harder for me at the minute as I'm eating Paleo and this is of course quite heavily protein orientated but we have a few recipes that I like and the children are getting used to, or of course as they are now in love with Veggie Fingers, they simply have those with a side serving of beans or some favourite vegetables whilst I eat something a little more exotic for their tastes.
The one product that we hadn't really tried for our Monday meals was Quorn. It wasn't for any sinister reason, just with Daddy being gluten free due to his Coeliac disease (it's an autoimmune disease like Type 1 Diabetes rather than a disease you can catch) we can't eat Quorn as a family as it does contain wheat. I tend to not buy all that many wheat products for fear of cross contamination and it's easier to just have one of everything. I however have a love for Quorn products, having been Vegetarian for several years as a teenager and practically living off the stuff!
Anyhoo, Quorn contacted me a couple of weeks ago and asked if I'd like to try some of their products and try some of their recipes. I said yes and the children were very impressed when they were served what they thought was meat on a Monday! The first dish I made was a Spanish Quorn Sausage Casserole. Big Boy wasn't that impressed with it and left almost all of his peppers, but he did love the sausages so much so that he wouldn't believe me when I told him that there was no meat in them. It was only a couple of days later when Big Boy saw Mo Farah on the TV advertising the very same casserole we'd eaten that he believed me!
I could have made a few family favourites, Lasagne or Cottage Pie or even a Chicken Stir Fry (well with Quorn not chicken) but in the end it was Top Ender who suggested that we try something else from the online recipes so we made Salsa and Nacho crusted fillets (I didn't eat it but the kids wolfed them down) and just plain Chicken Burgers in a bun (I didn't have this one either but the children assured me it was FANTASTIC) and now the children are ready to try more Quorn products, just as long as Daddy isn't eating with them!
We were sent vouchers to purchase the Quorn products.

Sorry for the yellow tint to this picture, it didn't look like that when I took it! |
