Life Lessons I Want My Children To Know (Because I've Already Made The Mistakes)
The lovely Emma tagged me in a meme, it was on a theme that I'd been thinking about for a while and if I hadn't been tagged I was just going to write a blog post, sharing these thoughts. The idea of the meme is that we share life lessons that we want our children to learn from our own experiences, a sort of take it on faith that this is the best way to live your life type thing. Now, I know that over the last few months I've mentioned a few of these a few times already, but these in no particular order are some of the life lessons I want my children to learn.
Sometimes, we're frightened to fail and that's understandable, I mean failing is scary and it's hard and it's messy and then sometimes just to top it all off, we hurt when we fail. It's okay though, the hurt doesn't hurt for too long and the pay off is that when we fail we learn something new and then we can use that new information that we've learnt to prevent that old hurt from happening again.
It's okay to fail. It's okay as long as you learn, pick yourself up and move on.
Seriously, the one thing I have learnt in life is that when you fail, you pick yourself up, dust yourself off and start again. Sometimes you might just want to sit in bed, eat biscuits and chocolate, drink plenty of Dr Pepper and wallow.
And that's okay, for a little while.
Then, you need to pull up your big girl pants (or big boy pants!) and get on with it. I always find that after a wallow, getting out and going for a walk and just breathing the fresh air outside is WAY better than wallowing. The wallowing however is needed at times okay? Whilst you live at home, I'll know if you're needing to wallow and will supply you with ice cream and whatever else you need. You'll have to call me once in a while when you move out if you want me to know however, okay?
This is the thing that I hate. When you've failed, pulled up your big girl pants and got back to it you have to go over why you failed the first time. You have to think, why did I fail? What mistake did I make? You have to make sure that you put your mistakes and failures to work so that you don't make them again.
The gift of wonder is something that some people learn. You two are lucky, you're both young and love learning but you have to make sure that you carry that on for the rest of your life. You have to always want to read, always want to learn, always want to learn more and never be satisfied with not understanding something.
I don't really need to explain this one do I? If you don't take care of your health, you need to prepare for an early death.
Learn to eat well.
Learn to exercise, actually learn to love to exercise.
Listen to the professionals, listen to your own body and make sure that you take care of it. It's the only body you have.
Show others that you care about them, you can do this by making sure that you are interested in them. Find out what your friends like and dislike. Find out what makes you friends, find out how to make them feel special and loved and make sure you share with them.
Take an interest in your other fellow humans. Is there a reason as to why anyone should ever feel alone or scared? No, there isn't. Therefore make sure if you can help make things change then you have to step up and make sure your help counts.
This might be a hobby. This might be a place to go. It might be a person, it might be a book. Just make sure there is something you love and that makes you feel good and helps you remember that there is good and love in the world.
Have Faith.
This I think is the hardest to have. I have faith, not only that we are Children of a loving Heavenly Father, but that the sun will rise tomorrow. That I will always be your Mother. That no matter what life throws at you, there will be a way through it. That even when you feel you can't go on, you can indeed go on.
People have commented to me in the past that when some bad things have happened that they are sure that if it had happened to them they would have curled up in a little ball and waited for it to go away. Other's have said that they would want to run away and hide from the issues.
I however know that you have to push yourself forward. After every blow that knocks you from your feet, I know that you have to pick yourself up, dust yourself off and start walking forward again. You have to ensure that no matter what you don't let life get you down. It's hard, but you have to have faith.
I'm not tagging anyone, but if you want to tell me the life lessons you want your children to know then do tell me those!
