May's Holiday In A Day
Our May Family Day saw us heading to Grand Designs Live show, at the ExCel London. We had my Mum with us (because what's a family day without extra family?!) and because we were showing off a little we decided to pack a lot in...
We drove to Westfield Stratford City and walked through an almost deserted shopping centre, although the boys did see some men washing their socks in the toilet and the "children" sat in a boat outside the toilets.
And this was all before hopping on a tube to Greenwich (home of the O2 arena) and walking towards the Emirates Air-Line London where of course Top Ender and Dan Jon had sworn they would never set foot again...
After a little bit of bribery, we were all sat in our cabin and soon enjoying a brilliant journey across the Thames. Yes, we know that there are easier ways to get to the ExCel, but come on you get to go in a cable car!
My Mum was loving it and the children were actually really interested in the trip this time, not caring too much about the height and instead, loving the view over London and their Mum's really rubbish understanding of which building is which!
We spent a couple of hours at the Grand Designs Live, looking around, talking to people about smart houses, finding the coolest beds, eating a lot of free samples and of course buying lots of stuff too!
You have hopefully already read about how my Mum tricked me into believing she was talking with a celeb at one point. Side note my revenge has already been put into motion. Mwhahahahahah.
Anyhoo.
After a slow walk to the Docklands Light Railway, where Dan Jon sat at the front of the train pretending that he was the driver and a quick trip on the Underground (again) back to Westfield Stratford City, we headed to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park for a picnic.
It was PACKED.
We drove home, where Flyfour and I listened to Matt Lucas on Radio 2 and the rest of the car slept soundly, resting up after the five miles we had walked (not including around the Grand Designs show) and ready for the last minute BBQ we were planning at home that evening.
Flyfour and I got busy pulling together a rather magnificent spread from seemingly nothing (we had purchased some burgers and buns, but that was it) and sat in the evening sunshine until it was time to take my Mum home.
It was a rather lovely Holiday in a Day
