What To Do On My Birthday?
My fortieth birthday is coming up and according to my friends, who for the most part have all had their fortieth birthdays, I need to do something special, because a big birthday like this has to be marked as it is a special occasion.
I spoke with Flyfour about it, he reminded me that back when we met my Mum had not long celebrated her fortieth Birthday and I said that I wanted to do the same as she did, a huge party for family and friends. I don't want that now, mainly because I've realised that Parties are not my thing, I prefer to go for a little while then quietly sneak away and let the Party animals keep on partying. I couldn't do that if it was my own party!
The problem is, I really don't know what I want to do for my birthday. I asked friends on Facebook for suggestions of what I could do, hoping that one of them would hit upon an idea that would spark an interest in my mind or heart and they came up with some great ideas. My friends suggested some great things, but what they were really telling me was that I should do things that I enjoy for my birthday that I don't normally get to do.
And there is the second problem. I've already worked out that life is too short to not read a book in bed or eat my favourite lunch or go for a walk in my favourite green space if that is what I want to do. I'll quite happily rock up to a Cafe on my own, drink a hot chocolate and play on my phone or read a book or even go to my favourite restaurant and dine alone or catch a film at the cinema and eat a large popcorn by myself... just once I've done my chores and ensured that the children are safely in School or at another activity.
So I've thought and I've thought and I've thought about what I could do, and then the issue was kind of taken care of for me.
On my 40th Birthday, I'm going to be spending the evening with around 30 of my Brownies watching a film at the Cinema. I honestly can't think of a better way to spend the evening than with a bunch of children whom I love, serving and watching a film!
