The Sacrament

Before Lockdown when I would go to Chuch on the Sabbath day I, along with the other congregants, would partake of the Sacrament. The Sacrament is what most people would think of if I said the Eucharist, a ceremony commemorating the Last Supper, in which bread and wine are consecrated and consumed. At the Church I go to, we consecrate and then consume bread and water as we don't drink alcohol and whilst we partake of it we do so remembering when Jesus said that the bread was his body and the water his blood.

Partaking of the Sacrament is a really big thing, it's really important and I don't think that before lockdown I really appreciated how important it was to me personally. Whilst I partake of the Sacrament I remember the Atonement and think about how I'm renewing the covenants I have made and as I sit there in the relative silence, I spend time thinking about what I've done in the last week that maybe wasn't quite in line with the teachings of Jesus Christ.

When the worldwide Church closure was first implemented, our family made the choice that we wouldn't ask for someone to come to our home to bless the Sacrament for us and then when Lockdown started, that wasn't an option anyway. My thoughts were along the lines of the children and I would be fine without having the Sacrament for a few weeks. We'd study about the Sacrament and the blessings we'd been promised would still be extended to us, as we kept being reminded by our friends and leaders, and we'd think about the prayers and it would be the same as it was every "normal" week.

Only, it wasn't.

The children and I haven't had the Sacrament for 15 weeks and as the weeks have gone on, it's been harder and harder (for me at least) to feel the Spiritual renewal I would feel when taking the Sacrament and attending Church.

And then today, because the way that the rules have changed here in England, the children and I were able to have a Priesthood holder come to our home and bless the sacrament for us to partake in. Dan Jon was able to pass the Sacrament to Tops and I, and it made so much difference.

I feel lighter, I feel safe, I feel loved, I feel connected and I feel at peace.
